Role Overview As a Subterranean Tunnel Inspector, you will play a vital role in safeguarding public infrastructure by conducting thorough physical and technological assessments of underground tunnels. You will collaborate closely with geotechnical engineers, maintenance crews, and safety officers to identify structural vulnerabilities and ensure regulatory compliance, ultimately preventing hazards and extending the lifespan of vital transit networks. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive visual and instrumental inspections of subterranean tunnel structures, retaining walls, and drainage systems. Identify, document, and categorize structural defects such as cracks, seepage, corrosion, and spalling using advanced diagnostic tools. Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze inspection data and formulate remediation or maintenance recommendations. Prepare detailed, accurate compliance and status reports for municipal authorities and project stakeholders. Ensure all inspection activities strictly adhere to OSHA and industry-specific underground safety protocols. Required Qualifications Demonstrated hands-on experience in structural, civil, or geotechnical inspection within underground or heavy construction environments. Proficiency in utilizing non-destructive testing (NDT) tools and structural monitoring software. Strong working knowledge of local and federal safety regulations regarding subterranean workspaces. Ability to work in confined spaces, at varying heights, and in variable underground weather and lighting conditions. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various underground job sites as required. Preferred Qualifications Certification in confined space entry and OSHA compliance. Experience with specialized ground-penetrating radar (GPR) or laser scanning equipment. Familiarity with municipal transit or utility infrastructure projects. Success Metrics Complete 100% of assigned tunnel inspection routes safely and on schedule within the first 90 days. Produce comprehensive, error-free inspection reports that meet all regulatory standards. Establish seamless communication protocols with maintenance and engineering teams to accelerate defect remediation.
